UNDER-BED AIR CONDITIONER · RHINOMAX OWNERS

Truma Saphir Comfort RC Quick Guide

The Truma Saphir Comfort RC is the under-bed reverse-cycle air conditioner used in our Renegade and Discovery models, and available as an option in the Defender. This guide covers operation, cooling/heating modes, remote control functions and troubleshooting. For full technical details and installation diagrams, download the complete Truma manual below.

⚙️ Basic Operation

Everyday operation of your Saphir Comfort RC in a Rhinomax camper.

1

Main Power ON

Switch on your camper’s Main A/C breaker at the electrical control panel. The Saphir unit will go into standby mode awaiting remote control commands.

  • Unit is powered under the bed or service area.
  • Air outlets supply conditioned air through floor-level ducts.
2

Using Cooling Mode

Press MODE on the remote until the Snowflake icon appears.

  • Set your desired temperature (typically 20–24°C).
  • Fan speed can be set to Low / Medium / High / Auto.
  • Unit will regulate compressor + fan automatically.

Note: Cooling efficiency improves with blinds closed and vents unobstructed.

3

Using Heating Mode

Press MODE until the Sun icon appears. Heating is via reverse-cycle heat pump.

  • Effective in most climates, but reduced efficiency in very cold weather.
  • For near-freezing conditions, use the Webasto hydronic heater instead.
!

Shutting the Unit Down

Press ON/OFF on the remote. Then switch off the A/C breaker if storing the camper or unplugging mains.

Do not disconnect power during a compressor cycle — wait for shutdown.

🕹️ Remote Control Functions

Understanding each button and what it controls.

1

Power Button

Turns the Saphir unit ON or OFF. The system returns to the last used mode automatically.

2

Mode Selection

MODE cycles through:

  • Cooling (Snowflake)
  • Heating (Sun)
  • Ventilation only (Fan icon)
  • Auto (A/C chooses mode)
3

Fan Speed

Choose Low / Medium / High or Auto. Auto adjusts automatically for temperature hold.

4

Timer & Sleep Functions

Timer allows delayed start/stop. Sleep mode gradually reduces airflow for quieter night operation.

🔧 Troubleshooting & Indicators

Common issues and quick checks to resolve them.

Unit won’t turn on
  • Check the A/C breaker is ON.
  • Check mains power or inverter is supplying 240 V.
  • Replace remote batteries or move closer to the IR receiver.
Poor cooling or heating performance
  • Ensure air ducts under bed are not blocked.
  • Close windows & roof hatches for best performance.
  • Clean return-air filter (accessible at the under-bed unit).
  • Heating output is reduced in very cold weather — switch to Webasto if needed.
Unit makes unusual noises
  • Check ducting hasn’t come loose.
  • Verify the unit is mounted firmly to structure.
  • Check for debris around the compressor area.
Error codes or flashing indicators

The Saphir unit may display codes via LED flashes on the internal module. Refer to the full Truma manual for detailed codes and resolutions.

If persistent, note the code and contact Rhinomax service.

🛠️ Preventative Maintenance

Simple steps to keep your under-bed A/C performing at its best.

🧼

Clean Air Filters

Clean the return-air filter regularly to maintain airflow. Reduced airflow is the most common cause of poor cooling and compressor cycling.

🌬️

Keep Air Outlets Clear

Do not block vents with bedding or luggage. The Saphir relies on clear ducting to maintain proper heat exchange.

🔧

Annual Service

Have the system inspected annually for duct integrity, condensate drains and electrical connections. Any refrigerant work must be done by a licensed technician.
